1971.04.01 Formed with HQ at Cirencester as a Home Defence Infantry Battalion by reconstitution as squadrons of old regiments which had been reduced to cadre in 1969: The Royal Gloucestershire Hussars, The Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry (Prince of Wales's Own) and The Royal Devon Yeomanry/1st Rifle Volunteers. The Squadrons kept the badge of their predecessor .
