. The Wessex Yeomanry .
1971.04.01 Formed with HQ at Cirencester as a Home Defence Infantry Battalion by reconstitution as squadrons of old regiments which had been reduced to cadre in 1969: The Royal Gloucestershire Hussars, The Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry (Prince of Wales's Own) and The Royal Devon Yeomanry/1st Rifle Volunteers. The Squadrons kept the badge of their predecessor .

1992 Squadrons reorganised: C Sqn reorganised as HQ (Royal Gloucestershire Hussars) Squadron at Cirencester and Stroud; E (HSF) Squadron disbanded .
1999.07.01 Regiment reorganised as result of the Strategic Defence Review .
. A (Dorset Yeomanry) Armoured Replacement Squadron at Bovington, formed by reduction of that regiment; moved later to Wareham .
. B (Royal Wiltshire Yeomanry) Squadron at Old Sarum, Salisbury .
. C (Royal Gloucestershire Hussars) Squadron at Cirencester, amalgamation of A Squadron and HQ Squadron .
. D (Royal Devon Yeomanry) Squadron at Barnstaple with 4 Troop formed at Paignton from elements 4th (V) Battalion, The Devonshire and Dorset Regiment .
