Germany. September disbanded in Germany.

 

 

 

1958

May HQ 7th Armoured Division at Sheil Bks, Verden converted to HQ 5th Infantry Division with 7th Armoured Brigade Group and 12th Infantry Brigade Group (ex 4th Division).

 

1959

Germany: HQ at Sheil Bks, Verden: OOB - 7th Armoured and 12th Infantry Brigade Groups.

 

1960

Germany: HQ at Sheil Bks, Verden: OOB - 7th Armoured and 12th Infantry Brigade Groups. 1 July HQ 1st Infantry Division disbanded in UK, re-formed in BAOR from HQ 5th Infantry Division.

 

 

 

1968

5th Infantry Division April HQ re-formed at Wrexham (2nd, 8th & 39th Brigades) in UK Reserve.

 

1969

Wales: HQ at Wrexham.

 

1970

Wales: HQ at Wrexham.

 

1971

Wales: HQ at Wrexham.

 

1972

Wales: HQ at Wrexham.

 

1973

Wales: HQ at Wrexham. Converted to HQ Land Forces Northern Ireland or disbanded.

 

 

c2005 -

England: HQ at Shrewsbury. OOB - 42 (North West) Brigade, 49 (East) Brigade, 143 (West Midlands) Brigade and 160 (Wales) Brigade.
