1977

Germany: HQ at Wentworth Bks, Herford. OOB - 6th Armoured Brigade and 20th Armoured Brigade.  Late in year brigade headquarters disappeared and Task Force were formed from the brigade headquarters. Division renamed 4th Armoured Division and now controlled Task Force ‘Golf’ at Minden and Task Force ‘Hotel’ at Detmold.

1978 - 1980

Germany: HQ at Wentworth Bks, Herford. OOB - Task Force ‘Golf’ at Minden and Task Force ‘Hotel’ at Detmold.

1981

Germany: HQ at Wentworth Bks, Herford. OOB - Task Force ‘Golf’ at Minden and Task Force ‘Hotel’ at Detmold. Jan Task Forces headquarters reverted to brigade designations, Task Force ‘Golf’ at Minden became 11 Armoured Brigade and Task Force ‘Hotel’ at Detmold became 20th Armoured Brigade.

1982

Germany: HQ at Wentworth Bks, Herford. OOB - 11th Armoured Brigade and 20th Armoured Brigades.

1983

Germany: HQ at Wentworth Bks, Herford. OOB - 11th Armoured Brigade and 20th Armoured Brigades.  33rd Armoured Brigade joined division from 3rd Armoured Division.

1984 - 1985

Germany: HQ at Wentworth Bks, Herford. OOB - 11th Armoured Brigade, 20th Armoured Brigade and 33rd Armoured Brigade.

1986

Germany: HQ at HQ at Wentworth Bks, Herford. OOB - 11th Armoured Brigade, 20th Armoured Brigade and 33rd Armoured Brigade. 31 Mar 33rd Armoured Brigade moved to 3rd Armoured Division and on 1 April 19 Infantry Brigade joined from 3rd Armoured Division.

1987 - 1992

HQ at Wentworth Bks, Herford. OOB - 11th Armoured Brigade, 19 Infantry Brigade and 20th Armoured Brigade.

1993

HQ at Hammersmith Bks, Herford. OOB - 11th Armoured Brigade. Redesignated 1st (UK) Armoured Division.

1995 -

Headquarters 4th Division was established in Aldershot on 1 April 1995, with command over 2 (South East) Brigade, 24 (Airmobile) Brigade and 145 (Home Counties) Brigade with administrative responsibility for 5 (Airborne) Brigade.
