1947

1 April RHQ 10th Field Regt RA at West Riding Bks, Dortmund was retitled RHQ 40th Field Regt RA with 78, 109 and 129 Fld Btys redesignated from 30, 46 Fld Btys, and 51 Bty of 51/54 Fld Bty respectively. Equipped with Sexton 25pdr.

 

1948 - 1949

1950

1958

Cyprus: Famagusta with 78, 109 and 129 (Dragon) Fld Btys, equipped with 25 pdr. 1 April 78 Bty S/A (later in 50th Regt RA), 109 Bty S/A, 137 (JAVA) Fld Bty resuscitated (late of 27th Field Regt RA) and 38 (SERINGAPATAM) Bty resuscitated (late of 15th Medium Regt RA). Mar moved to Portsmouth Bks, Munster.

 

1959 - 1960

1967 - 1968

1969

England: Wing Bks, Bulford with 38, 129 and 137 Lt Btys, equipped with the 105 Pack Howitzer. July moved to Mansergh Bks, Gutersloh. 9 Aug redesignated 40th Field Regiment RA, equipped with the Abbot 105mm Self propelled Gun.

 

1970 - 1972

Northern Ireland: Belfast (Ardoyne/New Lodge). 12 Jan moved back to Mansergh Barracks, Gutersloh with 38, 49, 129 and 137 Fld Btys, equipped with the Abbot 105mm Self propelled Gun.

 

1979 - 1980

1981

1983 - 1984

England: Kirkee Bks, Colchester with 38, 129 and 137 Fld Btys, equipped with the 155mm FH70 Field Howitzer.

 

1985

England: Kirkee Bks, Colchester with 38, 129 and 137 Fld Btys, equipped with the 155mm FH70 Field Howitzer. April moved to Haig Bks, Hohne, equipped with the 155mm M109 Self Propelled Howitzer. It also took under command 10 (ASSAYE) Air Defence Battery from 45 Regt, equipped with the Javelin Missile System.

 

1986

1988

1989

1990

Germany: Haig Bks, Hohne with 38, 129 and 137 Fld Btys, equipped with the 155mm FH70 Field Howitzer and 10 AD Battery, equipped with Javelin. Oct deployed to the Gulf in as part of 7th Armoured Brigade.

 

1991

Gulf War, fought in Iraq and Kuwait before returning to Hohne in March. Haig Bks, Hohne with 38, 129 and 137 Fld Btys, equipped with the 155mm FH70 Field Howitzer and 10 AD Battery, equipped with Javelin.

 

1992

Germany: Haig Bks, Hohne with 38, 129 and 137 Fld Btys, equipped with the 155mm FH70 Field Howitzer and 10 AD Battery, equipped with Javelin.

 

1993

Germany: Haig Bks, Hohne with 38, 129 and 137 Fld Btys, equipped with the 155mm FH70 Field Howitzer and 10 AD Battery, equipped with Javelin. On January 11th 1993, the Regiment reorganised again as a result of 'Options for Change'. This resulted in the departure of 10(ASSAYE) Air Defence Battery who joined 47 Regiment Royal Artillery, and the arrival of 6/36 (ARCOT 1751) Field Battery. The consequence of this was that all four gun batteries now in the Regiment had originally been raised in India, and were involved in the Siege of Seringapatam in 1799. At the same time Headquarters Battery was redesignated 49 (INKERMAN) Headquarters Battery. April renamed 40th Regiment RA. May moved to Caen Bks, Hohne.

 

1994

Germany: Caen Bks, Hohne with 6/36, 38, 129, 137 Btys and 49 HQ Battery. In October 1994 the Regiment handed over its M109 Howitzers to the Austrian Army prior to its re-equipping with the 155mm AS90 Self Propelled Howitzer. The Radar Troop deployed to the former Yugoslavia between September 1994 and March 1995 as part of Operation Grapple.

 

1995

Germany: Caen Bks, Hohne with 6/36, 38, 129, 137 Btys and 49 HQ Battery, re- equipping with the 155mm AS90 Self Propelled Howitzer. Full Conversion to AS90 and the BATES Command and Control system was delayed by three months as the Regiment deployed to Northern Ireland as the Girdwood Roulemont Battalion in Jan 1995.

 

1996

Germany: Caen Bks, Hohne with 6/36 (ARCOT 1751). 38 (SERINGAPATAM), 129 (Dragon), 137 (JAVA) Fld Btys and 49 (INKERMAN) Headquarters Battery, equipped with the 155mm AS90 Self Propelled Howitzer. In January the Radar Troop deployed again to Bosnia, this time as part of IFOR along with fifty other members of the Regiment who were attached to 26 Regiment Royal Artillery.

 

1997

Germany: Caen Bks, Hohne with 6/36, 38, 129, 137 Btys and 49 HQ Battery, equipped with the 155mm AS90 Self Propelled Howitzer. In July 1997 the whole Regiment deployed to Bosnia for six months as part of SFOR. When the Regiment returned to Hohne, the Gun Group of 129 (DRAGON) Battery was caderised, leaving only the Battery Tactical Group on the Regimental ORBAT. The Radar Troop was also caderised.

 

1998

Germany: Caen Bks, Hohne with 6/36, 38, 129, 137 Btys and 49 HQ Battery, equipped with the 155mm AS90 Self Propelled Howitzer. In July 1998 the Regiment arms-plotted to the United Kingdom and took over Alanbrooke Barracks at Topcliffe North Yorkshire.

 

1999

England: Alanbrooke Bks, Topcliffe with 6/36, 38, 129, 137 Btys and 49 HQ Battery, equipped with the 155mm AS90 Self Propelled Howitzer. July 1999 to January 2000 saw the Regiment deployed on Op Palatine in Bosnia again as part of SFOR. During this period 129 (DRAGON) Battery was reformed. 6/36 (Arcot 1751) Battery, 38 (Seringapatam) Battery
137 (Java) Battery, 129 (Dragon) Battery and 49 (Inkerman) Headquarters Battery

 

2000

England: Alanbrooke Bks, Topcliffe with 6/36, 38, 129, 137 Btys and 49 HQ Battery, equipped with the 155mm AS90 Self Propelled Howitzer.

 

2001

England: Alanbrooke Bks, Topcliffe with 6/36, 38, 129, 137 Btys and 49 HQ Battery, equipped with the 155mm AS90 Self Propelled Howitzer. In July the Regiment again deployed to the Balkans with 6/36 (ARCOT 1751) Battery going to Kosovo and 129 (DRAGON) Battery in Bosnia.

 

2002

2003
