1947

1 April RHQ 2nd Medium Regiment RA in Middle East / North Africa was retitled RHQ 39th Medium Regiment RA, with 36 and 169 Med Btys redes from 4 Bty of 4/7 Med Bty and 8 Bty of 8/12 Med Bty respectively. Equipped with 5.5” Gun.

1949 - 1950

Libya with 36 and 169 Med Btys. Equipped with 5.5” Gun.

 

1951

Libya with 36 and 169 Med Btys. Equipped with 5.5” Gun. Jan moved to Dundonald Camp, Troon, Ayrshire. 1 Feb converted to 39th Heavy Regiment RA, 180 Bty joined from S/A (Late 72nd Coast Regt RA) 19 Coast Bty joined as a cadre only from 47th Coast Regt. 15 Mar 19 Coast Bty converted to 19 Heavy Bty (cadre). Equipped with M59 155mm ‘Long Tom’ Howitzer and 7.2” Howitzer (180 Bty).

 

1952

Scotland: Dundonald Camp, Troon with 36, 169 and 180 Hy Btys. Equipped with M59 155mm ‘Long Tom’ Howitzer and 7.2” Howitzer (180 Bty). Moved to Tilshead.

 

1953 - 1954

England: Tilshead with 36, 169 and 180 Hy Btys. Equipped with M59 155mm ‘Long Tom’ Howitzer and 7.2” Howitzer (180 Bty).

 

1955

England: Tilshead? with 36, 169 and 180 Hy Btys. Equipped with M59 155mm ‘Long Tom’ Howitzer and 7.2” Howitzer (180 Bty). 19 July 19 Coast Bty designated 19 Heavy Bty. 1 Aug 75 Heavy Bty joined ex 48th Field Regt RA? Equipped with 155 SP.

 

1956

England: Tilshead? 19, 36, 75? 169 and 180 Hy Btys. Equipped with 155 SP.

 

1957

England: Tilshead? 19, 36, 75? 169 and 180 Hy Btys. Equipped with 155 SP. Mar moved to Busiginy Bks, Perham Down. Sept moved to Dekhelia/Jophinou Camps, Cyprus.

 

1958

Cyprus: Dekhelia/Jophinou Camps with 19, 36, 75? 169 and 180 Hy Btys. Equipped with 155 SP. Dec moved Durram Hill Camp, Carlisle. 15 Dec 180 Bty S/A (disbanded 1/1/62). 169 Bty disbanded?

     

1959

England: Durram Hill Camp, Carlisle with 19, 75? and 36 Btys. Equipped with 155 SP. 7 Dec 169 Bty S/A to resuscitate 171 Bty (complete by 31/12/59) & disbanded 1/1/62).

 

1960

1 Jan 39th Regt RA was reformed at Dempsey Bks, Sennelager as a composite regt with 19, 36 & 171 Btys. 3 Feb converted to a Missile Regt, 75 Bty resuscitated 15/9/60. Equipped with Honest John (36 & 19 Btys) and 8” Howitzer (75 & 171 Btys).

 

1961 - 1963

Germany: Dempsey Bks, Sennelager, equipped with Honest John (36 & 19 Btys) and 8” Howitzer (75 & 171 Btys).

 

1964

Germany: Dempsey Bks, Sennelager, equipped with Honest John (36 & 19 Btys) and 8” Howitzer (75 & 171 Btys). 18 Mar redesignated 39th Missile Regiment RA

 

1965 - 1967

Germany: Dempsey Bks, Sennelager, equipped with Honest John (36 & 19 Btys) and 8” Howitzer (75 & 171 Btys).

 

1968

Germany: Dempsey Bks, Sennelager with 19, 36, 75 & 171 Msl Btys. 1 May 75 Bty S/A. 10 May ‘H’ Missile Bty, RA joined from 6th Light Regt RA as ‘H’ Heavy Bty

 

1969 - 1971

Germany: Dempsey Bks, Sennelager with ‘H’, 19, 36, & 171 Btys. Equipped with Honest John (36 & 19 Btys) and 8” Howitzer (H & 171 Btys).

 

1972

Germany: Dempsey Bks, Sennelager with ‘H’, 19, 36, & 171 Btys. Equipped with Honest John (36 & 19 Btys) and 8” Howitzer (H & 171 Btys). 31 Oct 132 Bty joined ex 27th Medium Regt RA, later had a HQ Bty. 1 Nov 36 Bty to 50th Missile Regt RA. Nov redesignated 39th Medium Regiment RA. Equipped with M109 (132 & 171 Btys) and M110 (H Bty). Nov 19 Bty and 171 Bty disbanded and 176 Bty joined.

     

1973

Germany: Dempsey Bks, Sennelager with ‘H’, 132, & 176 Med Btys. Equipped with M109 (132 & 176 Btys) and M110 (H Bty). 25 Oct moved to Londonderry -Northern Ireland Tour.

 

1974

Northern Ireland: Londonderry with ‘H’, 132 & 176 Med Btys. 27 Feb moved back to Dempsey Bks, Sennelager. Equipped with M109 (132 & 176 Btys) and M110 (H Bty).

 

1975

Germany: Dempsey Bks, Sennelager with ‘H’, 132 & 171 Med Btys. Equipped with M109 (132 & 176 Btys) and M110 (H Bty). 4 Dec moved to HMP Maze Northern Ireland Tour.

 

1976

Northern Ireland: HMP Maze with ‘H’, 132 & 176 Med Btys. Equipped with M109 (132 & 176 Btys) and M110 (H Bty). 6 April moved back to Dempsey Bks, Sennelager.

 

1977

Germany: Dempsey Bks, Sennelager with ‘H’, 132 & 176 Med Btys. Equipped with M109 (132 & 176 Btys) and M110 (H Bty). Jan redesignated 39 Field Regiment RA.

 

1978

Germany: Dempsey Bks, Sennelager with ‘H’, 132 & 176 Fld Btys. Equipped with M109 (132 & 176 Btys) and M110 (H Bty). 12 Jan-11 May Northern Ireland Tour - Belfast (Ardoyne/New Lodge).

1980

1981

Northern Ireland: Fermanagh/Maze with ‘H’, 132 & 176 Fld Btys. Equipped with M109 (132 & 176 Btys) and M110 (H Bty). 11 April moved back to Dempsey Bks, Paderborn.  Equipped with M110.

 

1982

Germany: Dempsey Bks, Sennelager with ‘H’, 132 & 176 Fld Btys. Equipped with M110. April redesignated 39 Heavy Regiment RA. April H Bty S/A. 132 and 176 Btys left regt. 34, 56(as HQ) and 76 Btys joined.

 

1983

1984

1986
