1947

1 Apr or 1 May Formed in Husum in Schleswig-Holsten, Germany by redesignating RHQ 153rd Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA as RHQ 22nd Light Anti-Aircraft Regiment RA, with 47 (from 24 Coast Bty, resus from pers from 129 LAA Bty), 53 (from 17 Coast Bty, resus from pers from of 130 LAA Bty) & 58 (from 18 Coast Bty, resus from pers from of 131 LAA Bty) Bty's, equipped with L40/70 Bofors. The regiment’s task was training recruits. It changed its role to LAA on 1 Dec 1947.

 

1948

Germany: Husum in Schleswig-Holsten with 47, 53 (Louisburg) and 58 (Eyre's Company)LAA Btys. Moved to Oxford Bks, Munster where it was employed on behalf of the Commander-in-Chief, Germany to maintain law and order.

 

1949

Germany: Oxford Bks, Munster with 47, 53 and 58 LAA Btys. 20 Jan moved to Northumberland Bks, Menden.

 

1950

Germany: Northumberland Bks, Menden with 47, 53 and 58 LAA Btys. 1 Dec 58 Bty to 53rd LAA Regt RA, 48 Bty resus from S/A (late of 72nd Coast Regt RA) and joined the Regt.

 

1951 - 1953

Germany: Northumberland Bks, Menden with 47, 48 and 53 LAA Btys, part of 2nd Infantry Division.

 

1954 - 1955

Germany: Northumberland Bks, Menden with 47, 48 and 53 LAA Btys.

 

1956

Germany: Northumberland Bks, Menden with 47, 48 and 53 LAA Btys. April moved to ? Bks, Shorncliffe.

 

1957

England: ? Bks, Shorncliffe with 47, 48 and 53 LAA Btys. May moved to Llanion Bks, Pembroke Dock.

 

1958

Wales: Llanion Bks, Pembroke Dock with 47, 48 and 53 LAA Btys. 1 Mar 47 and 48 Btys into S/A (disb 1/1/62), 42 & 44 Bty's joined the Regt ex 72nd LAA Regt RA.

 

1959

Wales: Llanion Bks, Pembroke Dock with 42, 44 and 53 LAA Btys. May moved to Lisanally Camp, Omagh for 6 months. Oct moved back to Wales.

 

1960

Wales: Llanion Bks, Pembroke Dock with 42, 44 and 53 LAA Btys. 15 Feb 44 Bty moved to JLRRA.

 

1961

Wales: Llanion Bks, Pembroke Dock with 42 and 53 LAA Btys. April moved to Moore Bks, Dortmund. Sept moved to Sundern Camp, Gutersloh. Nov moved to Mansergh Bks, Gutersloh,.

 

1962 - 1963

Germany: Mansergh Bks, Gutersloh with 42 and 53 LAA Btys.

 

1964

Germany: Mansergh Bks, Gutersloh with 42 and 53 LAA Btys. April moved to Llanelli Bks, Hubbelrath. 18 Mar re-titled 22nd Light Air Defence Regiment RA. Sept moved to Singapore for a 6 month emergency tour, RAF Seleter - 42 Bty, RAF Changi - 53 Bty and RAF Kuching - 11 Bty.

 

1965

Singapore on a 6 month emergency tour. April returned to Llanelli Bks, Hubbelrath, Germany. 42 and 53 LAA Btys.

 

1966

Germany: Llanelli Bks, Hubbelrath with 42 and 53 LAA Btys. Mar moved to the Far East, RHQ at Tampin, 42 Bty at RAF Changi and 53 Bty in Borneo (Kuching Airport).

 

1967

Far East, RHQ at Tampin, 42 Bty at RAF Changi and 53 Bty in Borneo (Kuching Airport). March moved to Tonfannau Camp, Tywyn. 42 Bty remained in Singapore until Mar 1968.

 

1968

Wales: Tonfannau Camp, Tywyn with 42 and 53 LAA Btys. 42 Bty in Singapore returned in March.

 

1969

Wales: Tonfannau Camp, Tywyn with 42 and 53 LAA Btys. Dec moved to Napier Bks, Dortmund.

 

1970

Germany: Napier Bks, Dortmund with 42 and 53 LAA Btys. 1 Jan 11 Bty ex 34th LAA Regt RA joined the Regt, later had a HQ Bty. March moved to Moore Bks, Dortmund.

 

1971

Germany: Moore Bks, Dortmund with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. 24 Nov moved to Drumahoe – Northern Ireland Tour.

 

1972

Northern Ireland: Drumahoe with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. 16 Mar moved back to Moore Bks, Dortmund.

 

1973

Germany: Moore Bks, Dortmund with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. 15 Mar-17 July Northern Ireland Tour – Londonderry. Known since 1973 as the Welsh Gunners

 

1974

Germany: Moore Bks, Dortmund with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. 5 Nov moved to Londonderry NI Tour.

 

1975

Northern Ireland: Londonderry with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. 5 Mar moved back to Moore Bks, Dortmund. Sept moved to Rapier Bks, Kirton Lindsey.

 

1976

England: Rapier Bks, Kirton Lindsey with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. May to Sept - Northern Ireland (42 Bty).

 

1977

England: Rapier Bks, Kirton Lindsey with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. Jan re-titled 22nd Air Defence Regiment Royal Artillery, re-equipped with Rapier. Nov/Dec moved to Napier Bks, Dortmund.

 

1978

Germany: Napier Bks, Dortmund with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. 29 Nov moved to Lurgan/HMP Maze.

 

1979

Northern Ireland: Lurgan/HMP Maze with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. 28 Mar moved back to Napier Bks, Dortmund. Mar 1979 - Northern Ireland (42 Bty)?

 

1980 - 1982

Germany: Napier Bks, Dortmund with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys.

 

1983

Germany: Napier Bks, Dortmund with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. Aug to ? - Falkland Islands (53 Bty).

 

1984

Germany: Napier Bks, Dortmund with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. May to ? - Northern Ireland. Nov to ? - Falkland Islands (11 Bty).

 

1985

Germany: Napier Bks, Dortmund with 11, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. March 35 Bty joined the Regt. Equipped with Towed and Tracked Rapier. On the 29th March 1985, 22 Air Defence Regiment celebrated three events in one. Firstly the Regiment became the first "square" Rapier unit, with the formation of a fourth missile battery. On completion of the delivery of Tracked Rapier from British Aerospace, the Regiment now had two tracked batteries and two towed batteries, each of 12 fire units.

1991

1992

Germany: Napier Bks, Dortmund with 11, 35, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. July moved to Rapier Bks, Kirton Lindsey. 11 (Sphinx) Bty remained in Germany as part of 16 Air Defence Regiment.

 

1993

England: Rapier Bks, Kirton Lindsey with 35, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. Apr re-titled 22nd Regiment Royal Artillery. Apr 1993 - Northern Ireland  (Not 20 Bty)?

 

1994

England: Rapier Bks, Kirton Lindsey with 35, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. 31 Mar 15 Bty joined the Regt as Headquarters Bty.

 

1995 - 1996

England: Rapier Bks, Kirton Lindsey with 15/HQ, 35, 42 and 53 LAA Btys.

 

1997

England: Rapier Bks, Kirton Lindsey with 15/HQ, 35, 42 and 53 LAA Btys. May to ? - Northern Ireland (35 Bty).

 

1998

2000

England: Rapier Bks, Kirton Lindsey with 15/HQ, 35, 42 and 53 LAA Btys, equipped with Rapier air defence missile system. Sierra Leone (20 Bty).

 

2001 - 2002

England: Rapier Bks, Kirton Lindsey with 15/HQ, 35, 42 and 53 LAA Btys, equipped with Rapier air defence missile system.

 

2003

2004
