 2nd Line of Communications Signals

1945

NW Europe. Summer merged with 21st Army Group Signals to form HQ BAOR Signals. 10th September its name changed to No 1 HQ Signals. The Regiment now began to look rather like 16th Signal Regiment of following decades. Strength of regiment 2000 personnel spread through 73 Troops and Sections.

 

1946

Germany. On 15th October after more restructuring unit was renamed 2nd Line of Communications Signal Regiment.

 

1947

Germany.

 

1948

Germany. 15th June regiment was again re-titled HQ BAOR Signal Regiment.

1949 - 1950

Germany: Herford.

 

1951

Germany: Herford. Due to marked increase in the signals workload 2nd Line of Communications Signal Regiment was reformed at Hamburg. HQ BAOR Signal Regiment remained at Herford.

1952

Germany: Hamburg. August moved to Düsseldorf.

 

1953 - 1957

Germany: Düsseldorf.

 

1958

Germany: Düsseldorf. RHQ of No 2 Regt. together with 1 and 2 Sqns. moved into Bradbury Bks. Krefeld and became 16th Signal Regiment (Line of Communications).

 

16th Signal Regiment (Line of Communications)

1959

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns.

 

1960

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns. Redesignated 16th Signal Regiment (BAOR). The suffix (BAOR) was dropped shortly afterwards. Commanding Officer, Lt. Col Burke R Sigs.

1961

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns. 45 Signal Regiment (TA) becomes sister regiment.

 

1962 - 1963

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns.

 

1964

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns. Issue of Radio Stations D11/R230 & Radio Relay Stations C41's and 1+4's.

 

1965 - 1966

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns.

 

1967

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns. Issue of BRUIN communication equipment. As a local arrangement the Crest of the City of Krefeld was adopted as Regimental Badge. Prior to and from 1947 to 1962 the Crusader's sword in yellow set on a red cross, superimposed on a dark blue shield (Reverse colours of the former 21 Army Group badge), was the Regimental Badge. Under restructuring 45 Signal Regiment disbanded, and redeployed as a Sig. Sqn. no longer allied with 16th Signal Regiment.

 

1968 - 1971

1972

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns. Granted 'Freedom of Krefeld'.

 

1973 - 1986

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns.

 

1987

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns. Issue of PTARMIGAN communication equipment.

 

1988 - 1989

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns.

 

1990

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns. Operation Granby (Gulf).

 

1991 - 1993

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns.

 

1994

Germany: Bradbury Bks, Krefeld with 1 and 2 Sqns. Regiment moves to Krefeld Lines, Rheindahlen Garrison.

 

1995

Germany: Krefeld Lines, Rheindahlen Garrison with 1 and 2 Sqns.  Operation Resolute (Bosnia).

 

1996

Germany: Krefeld Lines, Rheindahlen Garrison with 1 and 2 Sqns.

 

1997

Germany: Krefeld Lines, Rheindahlen Garrison with 1 and 2 Sqns.  230 Signal Squadron returns under command from 7 Signal Regiment.

 

1998 -

Germany: Krefeld Lines, Rheindahlen Garrison with 1 and 2 Sqns.
